A Christmas Story
'Twas the night before Christmas--Old Santa was pissed.
He cussed out the elves and threw down his list.
Miserable little brats, ungrateful little jerks.
I have a good mind to scrap the whole works!

I've busted my ass for damn near a year,
Instead of "Thanks Santa"--what do I hear?
The old lady bitches cause I work late at night.
The elves want more money--The reindeer all fight.

Rudolph got drunk and goosed all the maids.
Donner is pregnant and Vixen has AIDS.
And just when I thought that things would get better
Those assholes from the IRS sent me a letter,
They say I owe taxes--if that ain't damn funny
Who the hell ever sent Santa Claus any money?

And the kids these days--they all are the pits
They want the impossible--Those mean little shits
I spent a whole year making wagons and sleds
Assembling dolls...Their arms, legs and heads
I made a ton of yo yo's--No request for them,
They want computers and robots...they think - I'm IBM!

Flying through the air...dodging the trees
Falling down chimneys and skinning my knees
I'm quitting this job there's just no enjoyment
I'll sit on my fat ass and draw unemployment.

There's no Christmas this year now you know the reason,
I found me a blonde. I'm going SOUTH for the season

SoCal and the trip back
I spent about 20 hours on the road this past Thanksgiving weekend driving up and down the I-5. It was kind've nice to spend time with Wendy and just talk for hours about everything and nothing at all. Thanksgiving break was really relaxing and I basically just ate, slept, and set up the new 32" LCD TV that Wendy's dad bought for their dining room. Speaking of eating, does anyone know where I can get a beef wrapped "green onion pancake" (tsong yuo bing) in the Bay area? They have this place Beijing Palace in SoCal that sells this delicacy and I've yet to find anyplace in the Bay that has it. Please comment if you know of a place that sells it!!

Unfortunately, the only downside of the trip was that Lady (16 year-old half-pomeranian half-spitz) jumped from a ledge and hit her chin. It almost seemed to happen in slow motion, Wendy, her parents and I were playing ping-pong (competitively) and all of a sudden Lady just hops from the ledge. As soon as I see the beige blur move in my peripheral image I turn my head and see that Lady is in the air and then slowly floating towards the ground. Then things, sickeningly, speed up. Lady slams onto the pavement, gives out a yelp of shock/pain, and begins to bleed in red droplets that splotch the white concrete. We all rush to her aid, put pressure on her cut chin, and comfort her.

Later that night, Wendy and I discuss a topic that's been surfacing all year. Lady is getting older and time has not been kind. Especially in the last year it's been very sudden, she's lost her hearing, her eyesight and can barely walk much further than 10-20 ft because of her bad back. Will we as owners make the decision that we're dreading? There's no medicine that will sustain her in her old age and any surgery at this age is unrealistic. We have only two real options. Wait and give her some kind of meds to alleviate a bit of the pain, or as owners and companions make the hard decision of letting her go while the chronic pain has not sapped all of her remaining happiness. We felt obligated to choose the latter, presented it to her family, and created a timeline and plan. One more trip up to the Bay Area, and one last one down to be with her family so that we can all be together.

On the trip back to Northern California, we talked about the fun we had during the trip, the same everythings and nothings. The next day it was home sweet home and then on Monday business as usual.
