Thursday, February 23, 2006Wedding website
So I bought a domain and 2 years hosting from dreamhost.
Initial impressions: Awesome deal! With the $97 coupon, I'm pretty much paying $3.87/month for a domain, 20GB space, 1TB of transfer, perl/python/php/mysql support, shell access (major plus), and email/mx records management. On top of that I can point as *many* domains as I want to the site and it has a great control panel. Really awesome!
The other thing that really struck me was how slick their ordering system is. Literally 3 pages and you're set. The only downside was that the coupon section was down for a bit causing me to waste about 20 minutes inputting valid coupons only to get "invalid" after what appeared to be a timeout on the backend.
So far, I'm loving it!
Stay tuned the wedding website should probably be up by the weekend.
Then I'll see if I can migrate some of this blog's photos/content over to the other place. 20GB is just awesome!! I'm stoked!!

Dreamhost
I might be switching to dreamhost soon as I'm trying to setup a wedding website and need to shell out some cash for a domain. Dreamhost has a phenomenal deal going on right now for hosting packages basically $94 for a free domain, 1TB/month transfer & 20GB of space for 2 years. Pretty awesome.

Apparently, someone did some research into the avg square foot prices for townhomes in S. San Jose and came up w/this nifty graph.
Here's an excerpt from the site: Here is price per sqare-foot data for 5-year-old 2 br/2.5 ba townhomes located on "communication hill" in s. san jose. Horizontal axis is the date the sale was made. The two models included in the data are 1057- and 1104-sq-ft in size, and are typical mediterranean-stucco-on-foam style (representing Irvine, CA's most ubiquitous export...with the possible exception of crap mortgages). They are located on a small hill and offer sweeping views of beauuuu-tiful south san jose.
You can look up similar charts on http://www.zillow.com though I heard some of their data is not all that accurate.
This home at $721,590 is valued higher than...
Learn more • 51% of homes in 95054 ZIP code $710,504 • 60% of homes in Santa Clara $687,043 • 48% of homes in Santa Clara County $723,679 • 76% of homes in CA state $525,284 • 91% of homes in United States $261,421

Surfing patrick.net
I was surfing the net looking for bay area housing spike when I came across patrick.net.
A few days back he posted the following: Not investment advice! February 16th, 2006 Let’s talk about what we can do to anticipate for the housing bubble burst.
Again, nothing discussed in this thread should be construed as investment advice. Consult a professional before making investment decisions.
One commenter replied with: After the collapse of the bubble and the US$, you will need basic survival skills. Buy lots of guns and ammo. Get Lasik so you won’t need your glasses. Learn building shelter, improvised clothing, fire lighting, trapping, fishing, evasion of human and robotic enemies, living on plants & fungi, improvised navigation, water purification, knife sharpening, gun maintenance. Side arms will be more liquid than gold. Realize that you will be stronger immediately after the RE Bubble bursts than later when you are cold and hungry, so act decisively. Above all, avoid gastric bypass or stomach stapling surgery - you may need every calorie you can absorb. I’ll meet you in the hills and we’ll talk over a human-jerky lunch.
Mmm... human jerky lunch... heh
