07/14/2004: "Busy"
Things have been hectic for me lately, lots of deadlines + move-in for new apartment and some other issues.
Grandparents are coming on 7/20/04 and Wendy's parents are coming to visit a few days later. Hopefully we'll have been all moved in by then.
After looking at condo/townhome prices in the bay area I've realized that maybe I shouldn't have bought a car and all these new things. The prices here are outrageous!
..::begin rant::..
Wendy and I looked at a townhouse on the same block as Afghani House on El Camino and it was going for $740K with $250 in association fees!
A townhouse costing 3/4 mil.
When did prices get so insane? I went to a loan calculator and found out that in order to afford that house with a 20% downpayment ($150k) and borrowing $600k I'd need to make 150k+ to qualify.
What's worse is that they've got low income housing lots for that area that were selling for $330k, but I didn't qualify-- which sucked bigtime.
In any case, I've come to the realization that I might not be able to afford a house/condo etc.
..::end rant::..
To end things on a happier note, I love the new treo. The biggest improvements aside from form factor are:
1) SD/MMC expansion slot 2) Palm OS 5.2 3) Verichat software (Integrated messaging client although its horrendously expensive!) 4) Ptunes (Mp3 player) 5) Battery life
Things they could have improved upon:
1) Screen resolution (320x320 instead of 160x160) 2) 802.11 & Bluetooth connectivity 3) Flash + high resolution camera 4) 3.5mm instead of standard 2.5mm headset jacks.
Despite the drawbacks, the treo 600 is probably the best pda/phone combo on the market-- I love it!

every loan calculator i found online said i didn't qualify, but after i talked to the loan agent, they said i was a-okay. so you might want to talk to a loan guy. i went to dave's dad, he was good. also, in santa clara county, they have a no interest 5k loan that can go towards anything. they have some limitations, but something to consider as well.

I think it's probably a good thing that you don't qualify for low income housing :)
