09/25/2003: "Wow I've been busy"
I haven't even had time to have a decent blog entry!
Hmmm...well I forgot to blog about the supremeboba team finishing first at the t-hunts YABA5 puzzle.
It was a really fun treasure hunt! We solved 12/18 of the puzzles and we were led by the great Carolyn Pao. Carolyn was amazing! She had the physical and mental stamina to run everywhere and still solve puzzles at the same time! At the end of the day, only Maggie and Carolyn were still solving puzzles. The rest of the supremeboba team were there in spirit (read this as tired and dehydrated).
So as Carloyn and Maggie were fighting the good fight, the rest of supreme boba stopped into a grocery store and tried to buy gatorade. This proved to be a rather difficult puzzle in and of itself. But luckily after about 10 minutes, we realized that the store owner's clue of "cash only" meant that were only able to use cash, instead of a credit card. Whew, good thing we had cash otherwise who knows how much longer we would have stayed there.
Meanwhile, Maggie and Carolyn had run up and down Lombard twice across Green St. and solved two puzzles. Go supreme!!!
So finally we get into the finish line at 4:40ish and find that we were the winners for that time period! They then let quite a number of people in after the "deadline" of 5:00pm who of course having more time were able to get more answers! In any case, we placed 5th amongst the rest of the non-supreme teams that should have been disqualified IMO. But at this point we were too hungry, tired, and happy to care :)
The "catered food" at the "celebration banquet" was mexican and terrible mexican at that, but after being starved because there was no time for lunch, my food standards had been lowered to the point where I would be satisfied eating just bread and water.
Next year YABA-6! We need to have a command center though and more walkie talkies, that was fun!
Later on we went to Carolyn's "tiny" apartment. It was actually a rather large studio with a voluminous kitchen, and a seperate bathroom & walk-in closet & computer room. But throw in the free garaged parking and you've got an awesome deal. We should have house parties at Carolyn's in the city now!!
Hummm...aside from that I haven't seen my friends in quite a bit. I visited Tom & Jeff's on Sunday under to guise of "Sure Tom, I'll work after eating sushi and going to Fry's", but ultimately ended up playing Tekken 4 and screwing around the whole night.
Analyzing that night, I think it was my lack of a functioning laptop which hampered my ability to be productive-- but that's a good thing. I'm still tempted to buy a new laptop to replace the old one. They're selling really lightweight ones with 1.2Ghz P4's for ~ $1.2k at Fry's.
In other news, I think we're having a supreme slacker lunch today. But I feel a bit under the weather, as lately the stress and working hours has caused me to get a knot in my neck/shoulderblade area that restricts my ability to turn my head without sharp pain. Maybe I'll show up and just stay very still.
The next event will probably be supreme dinner on Friday, which again I'm not sure I can make.
I'm picking up Wendy from SJ airport that night and I think the dinner location (TBA) is going to be between Sunnyvale and SF. So I'll be able to go based on the time of the event which is still TBA. So by implication my ability to go is TBA.
